NDP! Papa got tickets from a friend and all of us went. Mama had always loved NDP, being patriotic and everything..hahah...
papa adored the marching contigents segment while mama found it boring. ha...well, I knew it took many gruelling hours before these uniformed and non-uniformed groups could put up this segment...this seemingly simple routine of just marching...but imagined, just imagined...hundreds of people, totally unrelated, having to synchronise to the music and come out at exactly the right moment and keeping the right spacing...it was a mammoth task..something the SAF men always pulled off...mama loved uniformed men? Yup, absolutely. Always had this dream of marrying one, did marry one..except papap was not gonna don it for very long, as he was going to the private sector!
Xun was thrilled with the tattoos...ha...even after you came home, you were rummaging through the bag for days for more tattos and activity kits, like the singa mascot to do...I loved those NDP packs, full of goodies!
Had watched quite a few shows over the years, first time I saw them using coloured smoke! Awfully beautiful...except there was a bad acrid smoky smell when the smoke drifted towards the audience...ewwwwww...
mama reached and the koala bear never left me since...
Army vehicles...
boats...flexing our military strength...
OOo the performances had started. A dazzling visual feast with performers decked in iridescent costumes and having props that shone in the dark and stuff...
Not forgetting the unforgettable fireworks...I once performed at a NDP once and remarked to a friend that it was so romantic to stand under the fireworks with a loved one...it made one...so...impulsive in the face of such brilliance...that if the person were to propose at that moment, I would say, "YES!" nope...papa did not do that...ha he proposed on a quiet beach on new year's eve...and mama was terribly ill on that day. Our relationship had hit a rocky patch, he was unsure if I would accept...eh...I did...so..here we were...celebrating 7 years of marriage and going into 8th...
Xun, I did not want you to go into marriage, bringing idealistic notions of fiery romance and abundant happines...when two imperfect people, good people, came together, there would bound to be friction. Marriage is a very intimate way of learning how God loves us and how He exhorts us to love each other...It is a continual call to die to self and to serve...
And mama's prayers for you and tong...that God bless your marriages...hold fast to it...commit to work things out...the vows of "till death do us part" are covenants...that indeed, marriage could be a glimpse of days of heaven on earth...I love you two sooo much.
Xun xun looking all sporty decked in the NDP sunshade.
The two kids with their cumbersome bags...hah...they insisted on bringing them to ah ma's house...
It was really kinda cute to see the small bodies carrying such bulky bags....haha..
ok, tata kids.
