(3-5 June 19) Staycation at Genting Jurong East

It was a whirlpool of activities for us. We had spent the last two weekends in Malaysia, and right after the KL trip, we were having a staycation at Genting Jurong East Hotel! Auntie played at the casino frequently so she accumulated points in her membership account to exchange for hotel stays.

We took 176 and alighted at Jurong East Library, crossed the overhead bridge and saw Auntie waiting for us at the other end of the bridge. We went to the counter to register me as a guest and caught the shuttle bus in the nick of time! There were not enough seats; Auntie, Xun, Jun and Tong had to squeeze into the two-seater and Tong had to stand all the way to Sentosa.

The good little soldier, because of his sacrifice, we managed to take that 12pm bus. If not, we would have to wait for one more hour. We had lunch at the food street and Auntie treated us to delectable wanton noodles and hor fun. The initial plan was to go to the beach but it started raining cats and dogs when we were there. Imagined the looks of dismay on the children's faces.

So we went to Macs to eat instead. The amazing thing was the kids were still able to finish the 9 pc nuggets and fries though they just had lunch!

Seeing that the rain was not letting up, we decided to go to the aquarium. Tong had pleaded to go to the aquarium several times but I did not agree as the tickets were rather costly. It was a good thing that there was a fun pass so we could go to the aquarium and trick eye museum for $43 each, with a little left over for the children to go for a VR ride. And Jun did not have to pay for admission fees. Heng ah. Ha, we paid for Auntie's fun pass and she was so sheepish as she had wanted to pay for everything incurred on the trip!

We were packed like sardines in the aquarium as many had decided to detour here since they could not go to Universal Studios.

We enjoyed ourselves though we had to jostle and elbow our way around.

We went for a fish fact talk but we already knew most of the information as Tong loved to read up on fish (and watch fishing shows). The only new nugget of information was that they put species that the sharks were not interested in together with the sharks so that the sharks would not prey on them.

Ongoing exhibit about the noisy ocean. Had instruments for us to try out at recreating the sounds produced underwater.

Some displays were really enthralling...

We had not noticed that the jellyfish swam in this manner previously. The arms were on top. So those depictions of the blob at the top were wrong?

The cutest set of photos..the children with the giant spider crab

How could you remain crabby when the mischievous one smiled at you with a glint in his eyes? He had been getting on papa and mama''s nerves recently with his testing of boundaries. So...there was once when he kept going on and on about eating Da Mai. Even when Papa ordered him to stop, he still chanted it with a gleeful chuckle. Well, it was actually quite funny to me though Papa barked at him stating that it was NOT funny.

Just today, he went to bed at 7ish after dinner. I wondered what time he would be waking up tomorrow. He was getting raucous like his gor gor. When they played together, they made a formidable noisy team.

Ah...we finished exploring the aquarium...next up, the Trick Eye Museum

We thought it was a small area, not realizing that there were a few sections.

Ahhhhh...scary monster baby

The circus boy

Ah...relaxing at the beach....well it was what we had originally planned to do, now we were reduced to posing with pictures of the beach...

ooooo...starry starry sky...

Yeah we wished that the rain would stop.

Ha, Tong was too short

Waltzing the day away

Ah, Auntie caught Tong touching the lady's butt, ha

Yeee ha, let us continue the exploration.

Oooo. what was served for dinner?

What did you see, little rascally Tong?

Let's hit the road.

Bright cheery colours added to the upbeat mood of this section

Asked Tong to strike a pose and he gave such a haughty look

They liked this feature wall...

And played along enthusiastically when I asked them to pretend to be scared...

Valiant Jun to the rescue of the damsel in distress

Ahhh horrifying monster

Tong, the gallant knight, came to save the day too...

but he got snarled by the terrifying teeth

Nay, the hero triumphed over the evil monster.

More monsters on the loose?

One epic battle after another...

Could not stop running

Ah...for some peace and quiet now...

This was a really beautiful tranquil backdrop..

And we had our thumbe-jun jun hiding under a lily pad

Mama crooning: Fly me to the moon, and let us play among the stars..

more singing: Under the sea, under the sea …. ok I did not know what followed...now, did you understand why the kids like to make up silly songs? With a songbird for a mama, who could blame them for loving to break out into some melodious...or more often than not, out of tune ditties all the time?

Oooo sorcery...

Wondered if we would ever get a chance to try paragliding?

Oh no, disaster struck

yet again

Ah...finally out of the danger zone...to..the fantastical Candy Land

One could even levitate in this strange kingdom...

And meet a giant girl trapped in a house

Rather charming backdrop...

There was a VR game...the opponent looked like Donald Trump...hmmm

Hello Kungfu masters...

and masterful ballerina...

Now now…

We were indeed a family of bears..

Scaling a wall instead now...

and galloping like the wind on horseback... we had a very enjoyable time and were glad that Aunt Qin liked it too. Mama guessed as much as she knew Aunt Qin loved to take photographs.

VR ride with the remaining credit. Little Jun was too young.

Dinner at Food Street again before catching the shuttle bus back (ah, it was an indoor food court but the designer cleverly added lamps and even had the 'moon' to create the effect of a bustling street at night) Yummy food bought by Auntie again...Guess what the kids had? Wanton noodles again, they gushed that it was THAT tasty.

Checked in finally in the late evening...

The children exclaimed, "This is the life!" Where did they learn such phrases from?

Two luxurious queen sized bed joined as one... The beds and pillows were so comfy...Nice! Did you know that there was miscommunication between Mama and Auntie so I thought it was only a one-night stay. Heh Papa went back to take extra clothes (and the present for Auntie which Tong had forgotten to bring out) and mama forgot about Emmelyn and did not tell Papa to pack clothes for her.

ON the second day, Aunt Qin brought breakfast to the hotel for us. With satisfied tummies, we set off to the beach, catching the bus in the nick of time AGAIN. It was pouring in Jurong so we were undecided if we should make the trip. Mama tried calling UNcle Xingshun to ask about the weather on Sentosa but he did not answer the call. ah ha, but resourceful mama called the SENTOSA hotline instead. See, there were many ways to solve a problem.

Xun drew a heart and put 6 items in it to depict our family.

I bought a can of A&W so we could make use of the table at the cafĂ©.

This was how childhood should be like - lots of fun in the sun...

A picture of Tong tong popped up on my FB recently. Ha, also a photo taken at the beach. It was true, the days were long but the years were short. Where did this tiny furball disappear to? How could he have grown so quickly without me realizing it?

Now, we had one last tiny furball to cuddle. We thanked God that Mei Mei was a superb and easy traveler. She mostly slept and drank milk and did not pose much inconvenience to us. Well...we would eagerly wait for the day when she could join us in all the fun!
