Late November 2022 - Genting and Desaru

It looked as if it was just two of us having a couple trip!

The rascals munching on snacks, listening to music, bantering...and then falling asleep together. Peace in the car.

Tong always says that Mei is his teammate. Jun was enemy number 1, then Jie is enemy number 2, but Jun became an ally and now he is back to being enemy number 3.

Well, we can definitely see tong's biasness towards his darling meimei. He hardly raises his voice at her for he really truly adores her. But she is getting heavier and still thinks she can pounce on people and got a bad scolding that night when she jumped onto gor gor and he got really mad.

First pit stop: Breakfast at Eco Botania. A really lovely place, somewhat like our Holland Village.

The brother in laws always tease Xiaoyi. They keep taunting her that she is going to be left on the shelf if Uncle Caven does not marry her. These nonsensical brother in laws.

We went faster than the bus so we had a pit stop at the Genting premium outlet. Ate a little and bought yet more candy.

Ah, finally, after an arduous and nearly-6-hour ride, we were finally at Genting Hotel!

First yummy meal of the trip: Burger and Lobsters! Ah papa treated everyone. Wai gong complained to Waipo that we did not ask him along, causing him to miss out on the delicious treat.

The sumptuous spread that we ordered!

To the indoor arcade. Tong spent most of his time at the Pokemon machine and he did get a 5* on the second day!

Ah, Wai po stayed in the adjoining room and came over to babysit all the children, allowing us adults to go out and have fun sans the children!

A really dated photo...when everyone was skinny and youthful...and carefree

So we attempted to recreate the old photo...We could not find that old spot and had to make do with a dark spot behind the hotel we were staying at.

And of course, we needed to add the newest member into the photo...San yi Zhang told Uncle Caven: No pressure, we need to recreate this photo 10 years later... so we hope he will be around to recreate this photo with us : )

Ah...Eryi put this on FB...well seemed like only Xiaoyi had grown taller and older, but the rest have remained the same? WAHAHAHA

prim and proper photo at the hotel lobby where it was brightly lit

There was actually a tiger mascot behind us. As usual, the jocular San Yi Zhang said that his wife was a fearsome enough 老虎, so we needed not have that statue ..

Second day, bright and chirpy, all ready to play at the outdoor theme park

Well it sure was a really pretty place

But many of the rides were not operating

And this picture looks so idyllic...there is actually a more harrowing back story. We were waiting at this spot for XiaoYi, San Yi Zhang, Jie and Tong to take the scariest tower fall ride. We had waited for a long time and were getting impatient. We saw the staff launch the empty seats up a couple of times. Later on, a horde of people came out of the waiting area but we did not see them. Really puzzling.

A photo taken when they were first in the line. Then we saw them come out from another entrance. So, they were waiting and the previous group actually entered and exited the play area several times because of technical fault. Finally it was their turn and they were seated and ready, but Jie's safety harness sprung free! Xiaoyi said she had never felt such panic in her life and she screamed madly for help. Everyone was secured again and they actually went up a little before the machine announced that there was a technical fault. Xun did not feel safe and asked to leave...

We were talking about how a series of small mistakes could lead to a catastrophe. That it was easy to be slow to change one's plans when one had invested a lot of time, effort or money into something. That the crew manning the machine was probably made up of young chaps who had no engineering or technical background but making life or death decisions.

We wondered what could have happened if one passenger's harness had sprung open while we were observing the ride. That would have been like a "Final Destination" (old horror thriller movie) moment, with us witnessing something morbid...

Mama told the kids to trust their instincts and to walk away from something even if one felt one had invested a lot of energy and time into a venture. To listen to their gut feel and that safety lapse in one small area (heard a story of an accident caused by a mechanic using a slightly smaller screw for the airplane's windscreen) could cause a major mishap

Off to safer rides...

Feeling relieved that all of us were safe and sound

and together... a korean drama moment for er yi and er yi zhang

Yes, an extended family photo...been 3 years since we last travelled together?

And of course, the 4 sisters

Ah, tong was missing from the photo as he did not go to the toilet with them

Having a break and eating ice cream in the cold weather

\
Finding fun amidst silly things

Found a picturesque spot with dreamy blue clouds in the background and quaint shophouses bathed in warm balmy sunlight

I

I love our burly tong tong..

All in all, we spent the entire afternoon there.. it was fun...but perhaps we would only come back a couple of years later when all the rides had been rigorously tested and opened completely

Dinner at home... Had BBQ food the first night...the managing staff were supposed to have the food ready but it was pouring so their pit was wet and they took a long time to cook the wings...We had to use the portable pit to BBQ food too! Gosh...

Second night: The old folks walked out to eat while we got Zi Char from one of the restaurants!

Ah...Seafood restaurant in Desaru.. one of the famous ones...and the kids could be at ONE table all by themselves, even our cute little Mei mei, the littlest of them all

Tong did not look too impressed but the lobsters were humongous and dripping with butter...ooo

They were amazing

Time to tuck in!

Oh, this happened before we reached the seafood restaurant. We were driving merrily and Mama spotted the old folks having durians along the road. Quite a breezy roadside stall by the sea...what a sweet spot!

Ah, so we also came to eat durians after lunch...really affordable...quite OK

After a filling seafood lunch, we went to the ostrich farm.

Biggest bird egg

One of the staff actually put the corn kernel on his head and let the ostrich peck it off!  The ostriches were rather forceful. One snatched Jie's bunch of vegetables away. Another pecked Jun's hand so hard that it hurt.

The poor ostriches lost their feathers over time due to the wet weather. Due to constant exposure to rain, their feathers fell off. The other ostriches would keep pecking at the bald spots so the new feathers never had a chance to grow out.

I must say, they looked rather deranged.

The valiant princess warrior! Mei rode the ostrich..

Gege too

We had wanted to go to the beach but it was near to its closing time. They actually closed the public beach because the waves could get really torrential and dangerous in the evening...

A last photo to commemorate this trip...Bye Desaru

We will surely be back as we love lobsters!

Ah, they decided to take the bus. Apparently, during the 1.5 hour trip from the crocodile farm to the restaurant in JB, Tong entertained and serenaded the young ones...singing songs and asking them to guess the titles, getting them to sing along...ha...he asked Er yi to rate his emceeing skills later on...to which Er Yi gave 10/10!

We actually came to this crocodile farm a few years ago with the triplets and the rest

Wondering what the photos would look like?

Ah....cute...Sanyi bought the physical copies so that she could get the soft copies...hahah

and made us take the physical ones home

After lunch at Peking Restaurant, the rest left via the bus...We went to KSL City to cut our hair, then to Paradigm Mall for some shopping and dinner. It was 9 plus when we checked the traffic and it was a 1000-minute jam at the customs. We decided to catch a show, Wakanda Forever, and it was Mei's virgin trip to the cinema!

Ha Waipo gave each child 200 ringgit so Mei bought this as she wanted to be a mama. Tong bought a remote shark at the crocodile farm and it did not work! Jun asked Mei to give him the money left over from her purchase so he could buy a Treasure X monster which cost SGD 90!

And she was playing with the beach toys bought by papa and recorded a message thanking him for buying her the toy. Ah....this is a really endearing little girl eh? She is a smarty pants, reads situations well and knows how to take advantage of situations.
