Day 3 - Summer Land Camels Tour, BFO and Collectors Market at South Bank
So we set off on an 1-hour journey to Summer Land Camels. The picturesque scenery was simply breath-taking...
Azure blue sky and giant fluffy clouds in the sky
Quaint little place
4 Gor Po treated us to a 15-min camel ride. Jun was terrified once he sat on the hot leathery seat. He wanted to get off and was really jumpy...but I made him recite his bible verse and he calmed down and went on with the tour
We learnt some fascinating facts about the camels in Australia - that it was the only country that had wild camels, that they allowed the wild male camels to come onto their farm to be domesticated and mate with the females...that the females needed to be with the young camels in order to continue producing milk...
That camel milk was very low in fat...and people perceived the taste differently! Some people even found it salty...or that it had a nutty aftertaste..and while one car can produce 60litres of milk a day, the camel could only produce 6-7litres a day!
OK safely back on ground. Our camel was called Nugget. How apt, since Jun loved Nugget. Papa's camel was called LongReach, Xun's Drover. Ha. Nugget had the cutest name.
Papa's camel was behind us and it came quite close to us several times and Jun insisted that it was trying to chew his shoes.
The rest fed the camels while Jun and I loitered in the shop as he did not like the flies and it was too hot outside... I tried the body lotion made with camel milk and it felt really creamy and smelt heavenly. Tong even bought a lip balm made with camel milk too.
We tried the camel milk in the store and I found that it had a strange aftertaste.
Some ordered hot chocolate with normal cow milk while a few ordered hot chocolate with camel milk. Apparently, the one with camel milk tasted richer. We were amazed by the latte art when it came. Later, we found out that they used a stencil and sprinkled the cocoa powder to make this shape. Well, that was clever!
The fries were SO SALTY and thus so yummy. Granduncle Brian said that there was how fries should be made - all crispy and salty. HA
Caught the herd of camels all huddled together peacefully just before we headed off
They thought we had food and came towards us! Perfect photo opportunity
Well, it was a peaceful haven...the camel ride was really pricey though (aud 33 for each pax, regardless of age)
Well, it was an experience nonetheless. We were supposed to go to the alpaca farm after this but it was a 1 hour drive away from Brisbane...we did not want to make a special trip to such a faraway place since we could easily see alpacas in Malaysia too
The girls wore matching tees...well Jie usually would not wear it out...she usually wore it at home as sleepwear...oh well since we were on holiday and nobody she knew would see her wearing a cutesy unicorn tee, she did not mind twinning with Mei Mei
Taking a photo with our beautiful white "bus"
It also had a beautiful car plate number!
BFO
It was not a big development but Papa and the big kids bought really nice and affordable tees at Adidas! It was wonderful that we happened to be in Brisbane during the Black Friday season so we enjoyed great discount! The staff member even told Papa that they hardly ever had 40% off for all the items.
Well, the small ones and Tong were restless, so we went off to find food. The small ones kept asking for photos when they came across the kiddy rides.
and the photo spots... HA
Well, the mall was quiet and spacious...so it was nice for a slow, leisurely and rainy afternoon
Jie even bought a pair of expensive running shoes for a really good price! It was some S$280 but we got it for only 60 aud! I guess she was the biggest winner. HA
COLLECTORS MARKET
Nice walkway that led to the market
Jie wanted me to take a jumping shot of her looking like Mario when he jumped..eh....my handphone could not take jumping shots very well but we got this silly picture of her in that pre-jumping pose.
We realised that the picture in our apartment depicted the exact same pathway to the market! Sharp of Jun to notice it!
In the evening, we walked to the South Bank Collectors Market. How luckky that we managed to catch two street markets during the short amount of time that we were here! We even met the doughnut ball man whom we saw at the Wednesday market! He gave Tong a free doughnut ball. HA
Took a photo with the ferris wheel. 4 Gor Po said we already had such a stupendous view of the city from our room, why would we need to take the ferris wheel?
There was a playground and a pool next to it!
Jun and Mei had a great time at this playground. We went off to walk around the market for a while and went back to it while the others continued exploring the market. Later on, everyone gathered at the playground. Even Xun was playing at the spinning structure with the little ones. The playgrounds in Brisbane were really FUN.
Entered a candy store and the kids used the gumball machine. Ha they said the gum was so yummy.
Well, all of us had a sweet tooth, just like Grand Uncle Brian. He liked exotic flavours though, licorice, ginger gummy coated with chocolate, black jelly beans...
So...yeah bought lollipops...
Walked back to our apartment and crossed the bridge...stopped to admire the night scenery and river...
Ha Jie wanted to do this jumping shot and the small kids joined in too
The pair of lovey cutie pies
The rest of us strolled back...and we saw some people doing latin dance at the public square...then a while later, we saw a group of people dancing boisterously to upbeat Indian music...
What a very energetic and vibrant city...ah.. wish our city centre were so exciting too...
OK, we would be checking out of Meriton Suites tomorrow and heading to Gold Coast!
