(May 2024)- Malacca with Ah Gong and Ah Ma Day 1

On the way to Malacca and we saw this dreamy mountain in the distance...ha Malaysia's version of Mount Fuji?

Hello, Jonker Street!

Papa went around sightseeing while we waited for food at the cafe.

Calanthe Art Cafe. Very charming. Very unique. Very chaotic too.

They had sand roasted coffee and different types of coffee from all 13 states of Malaysia.

The chicken chops were really delicious...ooo the gravy...fantastic start to our journey in Malaccs

The laksa was amazing.

Very whimsical place. They decorated the place with old items...and the walls were left un-touched-up with mold and cracks showing...

They made use of old items like cans, pots, lids, bottles, mainly unwanted things that I would definitely not hoard but for which they had found a good use for...

A cozy corner...it was like stepping into someone's living room in the 70s

Stepping into memory lane and being transported into another era?

Ah...a geographer by training, I must take a photo of the maps...nay...i could hardly read maps.ha

We were one of the first few to arrive but we stayed there for a really long time...2 ish hours? The children got a little restless, cozied up together and started making a ruckus ...blah

Ok, let us explore Jonker area...lots of murals...

ancient shophouses housing businesses which had been around for eons ...and also some spanking new cafes which had changed the old-world charm flavour of the place...oh well.. I guess...money made the world go round...I just hoped that this place would still have some of its rustic charm when we next came...

Went shopping...the little ones loved to pose in front of mirrors. Ooops, the shopaholic mama was caught in the background

Mamee store! Mamee the monster was BIG over here...lots of signboards and giant posters of this blue monster...I guess it was something new as I did not recall seeing him when we came several years ago

The big monster and the small monster...Tong was recruiting Dylan into his team, so that he would bring his twins along and together, they could beat Jie up...LOL

Well, by the time the twins were ready to fight someone, Tong would have grown so much bigger and probably would not need their help?

Jie wanted to start a series of photos featuring her eating something...

Ha...the cute little monster JUN

We walked to this restroom courtyard and saw this intriguing sculpture...some Datuk who was a beauty contest winner...LOL

Let us take the bull by its horns!

Jie told me to take a photo of this shophouse as she loved the intricate carvings on the roof

We went to an AEON mall. Yes we loved AEON malls. We felt so safe and so familiar with the shops it offered. It was like our Capitaland malls, always trustworthy and reliable. HA

Well, Tong went to the arcade to play his Pokemon Gaole game while the others went to Kidzoonia...Heh, Jie and Mei spent a long time at this Jap takoyaki ball stall

Dylan spent most of his time scrambling around in the different cars...

We arrived at the gorgeous villa in the evening. It was certainly most suitable for hosting a HUGE party. There was a soundproof KTV room.

A spacious and delightful outdoor area

YEA, our very own pool

Papa played against Tong...he won narrowly...ah...waiting for the day when Tong would be more skilful than Papa

Clean, comfy rooms

Even the little ones played a game

Totally enjoyable and delectable dinner!

It was already very crowded when we reached there at 6pm on a Sunday

Special dish not on the menu - bacon something

the legendary sweet and sour pork on ice was really 名不虚传

Stir-fried brinjal was amazingly yummy

The very expensive cod fish...but yeah, fresh and first-class

Or lua egg...

braised porl belly

Ah...cereal prawns

drunken chicken?

Hmmm sweet shredded pork in buns

Pork fillet in blueberry sauce, delightfully tasty

While Ah Gong, Ah Ma and Xiaoshu's family went back to the villa, we decided to go back to Jonker area to explore the night market! Ha, walked past this gimmicky D'sney lodge...we laughed and talked about how imitation was the highest form of flattery

OOOOO...steaming hot quail eggs with cheese

The delicious aroma of food filled the air...i would have loved to try the thai-style satays...but I was SIMPLY too FULL :(

Sweet jelly balls!

The place was bustling and lively...

Bought a bottle of candies

oh 冰糖 fruits! They liked it so much that they went back a second time to buy it again...

Walking back to the carpark...

Saw some interesting shophouses....Mama had always loved shophouse...they embodied sense of history, having witnessed decades, even centuries of a place's growth and changes...

There were many eateries and pubs along the river...maybe someday when all of you were grown up, we could go to a watering hole and drink the night away? Except that Papa could not hold his liquor at all...hahaha!

Dylan went night-swimming! Ha

Ah, the place was prettily lit up at night

Ok, we should definitely make good use of this tomorrow!
