We had arranged to meet Aunt Xiyue and her girls for a date to the National Museum for the Children's Biennale. All free for Singapore citizens and these special installations offer a lot of sensory experiences and interactive exploration for the little ones!
Exhibit one - Bum boat trail
Caught sight of a stunning backdrop for a photo while we were on our way to the counter to collect a passport for the Children's Season.
This vault was intriguing. It contained many bottles of seeds, leaves, petals preserved in alcohol...it was like a bio-vault. We could open the bottles and take a whiff...some were very pleasant, like the jasmine, cocoa beans, some were downright weird...
cool, and even jun joined for a photo!
The cultural trail - they could put their hands into the vessels to find the answers to the riddles
A picture depicting a teacup ride from one of the three famous amusement parks of the past...he liked it so much that he kept coming back to sit in the cup.
jun also played peek a boo with the beautiful lace
if only there was a real dragon playground here. We should make a trip to visit one of those remaining ones soon, before they all became a figment of the past...i recalled playing at a dragon playground every week when my sisters and I were young. We spent every Sunday at my ah ma's house in AMK and we would jaunt to this dragon playground and play catching. A mean feat, considering we had to traipse quite a long way (alone, gasp if kids went around unsupervised now)...and to clamber up that dragon structure and run around to avoid being tagged! Cool stuff.
Each kid got a piece of the Peranakan tile paper and started colouring
Pasted their tiles to the wall mural
checking out the other wall displays
Even a sniffing station
Maybe we should visit Haw Par Villa too?
Glass Rotunda: Story of the Forest and Singapore, very old tree
New exhibit and it was quite breath-taking...well the exhibits were increasingly geared towards a heavy reliance on technology...
Went through the Singapore History Gallery too...Awed by how the exhibits were constantly refreshed
Off we went to the Philatelic Museum which was currently having the theme " A little Magic"
Tong was holding on to a magnifying glass with a light.
Stepped into a magical land, saw stamps featuring fairy tales!
Playing with shadows
A new exhibit on eggs...
Eye-opening, such intricate carvings and designs on some of them
Stepped in to the 70s, with quaint set-up
tong tong ah pek
Jun was fascinated with the clogs. Ashley jie was so smitten with the little one, she was patiently taking care of him most of the time
tong ah pek
Ha, this exhibit was titled " A fowl tale" , what a cute play on words. Tong was hiding eggs under the chicken
It was the year of "Rooster", so all the items were related to mama's zodiac sign. You found little cards detailing information about your animal signs.
There was a cooking corner and we almost could not pry jun away from it.
Harry Potter's room. Jun was adamant about going onto the broom, he went back to that spot several times. This little rascal was getting really cheeky and opinionated.
Pretending to be in the train carriage to Hogwarts. It was challenging to get a good photo.
We even went to the Peranakan Museum. One friendly security guard told the girls that they could get a piece of coloured paper from the counter, collect all the emboss and get a book! We never knew that. So the kids were enthusiastically running around to complete the activity.
I was bushed, so was Aunt Xiyue. The kids seemed to be cloud nine and still raring to go. We ended up having a breather at Macdonalds. Oh comfort food.
What an enriching day. We would definitely meet up with the ABC sisters again!
