(Jun 17) Learning how to roller blade

What a sunny day, a balmy day...on our little excursion to Ming Ming's house for a playdate...

What a heartwarming moment - the trio hand-in-hand

The little one definitely looked lanky in this photo... he went for his jabs recently and was valiant as usual, not even flinging or moaning for the first jab...reality sank in and he whimpered for just a short while when the second shot was administered. He was still in the 10th percentile, but growing steadily for sure!

The little cousins came together to form a group for roller blading.

The children were all ears when the very strict and fierce-looking Coach Ryan instructed them about the techniques on getting up and falling...

Cousins for life

We bought these blades from Cash Converters at Toa Payoh. They were on sale and cost a mere $15! Interestingly, tong's cheap skates (ha sounds like cheapskate) turned out to be the best of the lot, surpassing those $40 ones from Big Box and Decathlon in performance.

The tiny tykes were rocking it, playing with balls and roaming everywhere

Amazingly, all the kids managed to balance and walk around after the first lesson. Coach Ryan had a nifty trick. He used a cord tie to tie up the third wheel of the right blade, and it became easy for the kids to balance and practise. After the cord tie was cut off, they struggled for a while with the newfound freewheeling sensation but they got the hang after some time : )

2nd lesson...ha this time round, we deposited the skates at Biaogu's house on Sunday night, if not the poor kids would lug their own barang (which I made them do it last week) to Bukit Batok.

Spring in the steps, with no cumbersome load

The munchkin enjoyed finding little corners to hide

Favourite female cousin

We went to the baseketball court this time as Coach Ryan said the place was wider and would be better for practising...

So the little ones played, the big ones had an arduous one hour of skating! Jie managed to grasp the figure 8 technique of opening and closing the skates...seemed like she was mastering the ropes very well...Tong was impressively agile and adept too. Later on, Eden tried on Tong's skates as he complained that he could not complete the figure 8 technique as his wheel was jam locked. He found tong's blades too smooth and fast! So I supposed...tong must have quite a good sense of balance for he had been managing thus far.

Two more lessons to go...hopefully, the two of you could master the basics sufficiently, then we could have family outdoor time blading and cycling in future!
