4 Dec 2024 - Brisbane Day 8

DAY 8 - CURRUMBIN WILDLIFE SANCTUARY, BROADBEACH WITH COUSINS

Mama was checking her messages so Jun decided to help write some things. So if you see "Jun wrote", that means they were contributed by him. Tong had raisin toast and smoked salmon for breakfast.

Jun wrote: Gor Gor cut bread.

CURRUMBIN WILDLIFE SANCTUARY

Yes everyone was in the picture!

Went into a cave lit up by fairy lights...second last day of fun in Australia

Jun wrote: Mei pretending to be a deer

LOL I could not for the life of me  remember what animal I was trying to capture in this photo

Well, the thing that I was trying to photograph was this small mouse at the top right corner. I did like how the staff members decorated the tanks with Christmas things!

Tree lizard on the log...the main point was to take a photo of the baubles

Jun wrote: Jie Jie getting strangled
Jie was wearing a Slytherin t-shirt

The clownish Mei

Jun wrote:  Giant igunna
He went to gatecrash JJ's photo
Jie wore a Christmas themed shirt

Went into this enclosure and saw this really pretty and colourful bird

Mei liked Biaoshen very much and held her hands quite a bit when we were exploring the nature reserve. Later on, Mei said she really like JJ and Jayron too and wished she could play more with them.

Jie said I was stalking Grand Uncle Brian and Tong

The bosom buddies

Not a real crocodile. We were merely at the playground

The kids had a blast at the zip line

Mei had a lot of fun on this. She told us not to push her but Gor obviously turned a deaf ear to her instructions.

Woooooo

Everyone had a go

Biaoshen said that JJ and Jayron no longer liked to wear matching tees but she still made them wear similar colours haha

Perfect shot

Well Papa wanted to have fun too! The sign said it was for kids, and we were a little concerned that he might cause it to snap for good

But haha off he went!

The small ones played at the playground next to the stage

The performers actually told the kids that they had these baby dinosaurs as they found some unhatched ones, very fortunately, and managed to hatch them. Gosh!

Jun and Mei were taken in by their words and really thought they were speaking the truth!

Mei even went up to pet it and take a photo. The creature could blink its eyes and Mei said its skin felt like scales.

Just hanging out together

The birds were a menace. One ibis even nipped a fry off somebody's plate which had been left on the bench! One even hopped onto a table to steal nuggets!

Saw a plane leaving a trail in the sky

Trying to dig for fossils

Woah what a gigantic dinosaur

Mysterious landscape

Ancestor of the gecko

Papa and Mama in matching wear

Say hello to the pelican. The Australians were very careful about adding animals to the reserves, apparently, they rescued animals and usually returned them to the wild and they had to get permission from the government to keep them captive.

So...there are very few creatures in each enclosure, mostly one usually, so Papa said that was why it was called "xxx wallaby", "yyy Tasmania Devil" in the singular as there was really just one of the species in each enclosure. HA

Owl

The black cockatoo - it could tell when rain was on the way...amazing! I told Tong that we should rear a black cockatoo!

The person sitting next to Tong got chosen to hold up her arm to let the cockatoo land!

Massive falcon - the apex predator. Its wingspan could be as long as 2.1m!

They were thought to be the culprit for killing livestock in the past and were hunted down fiercely. Later on, people learnt that they fed mainly on road kill, or weak or sick livestock and mostly on feral foxes and rabbits so they were really useful in keeping the delicate balance of the ecosystem...

CAPYBARA...Mama asked why they were so fair. ANG MOH capybaras?

Tree kangaroo

Poetic shot of Jie against the stream of ray filtering through the dense foliage

And her photo buddy : )

With lush vegetation and bubbling waterfall

Time for lunch - Mei was asleep as usual. Jie said it was her modus operandi to be asleep during meal times...

NOTE: Jun was so excited to help Mummy blog so everything from this point onwards in blue text was done by the adorable JUN.

Mama's comments in blue

One of the bird's feet is hidden.

A couple Mama told them that she was going to take a romantic photo for them. HA

                                                                         waterfall
This bird's leg is actually gone

Mummy teased Granduncle Brian by saying "Uncle Brian, meet Freddy. Freddy, meet Uncle Brian." Mum told Beo Gor Po that these were ang moh birds, hence Granduncle Brian's friends.

Jie wanted a photo with this bird as its name was Freddy.

And his brother bird was called George.

So the two birds were George and Freddy like the twins in Harry Potter!

Guess what this animal is... it is a red panda! So cute

What animal is that? TBH i forgot

                                                    The lost valley *Eerie music*

Papa's game username was Lost as he felt really lost during that first online game he played when he was a young child. We often joked about how Mama must be Found them so together we were Lost & Found. ha poor Papa, still lost after 43 years

Gor Gor FINALLY got to see his tasmianen (i think i spelt it wrong) devil on the last day too
                                                           Mei found a mate     HEHE
                                                                   Even more birds

Bird apocalyse (did i spell it wrong?)

Papa said the claws of the birds were sharp and dug into his skin, creating little holes

Mei with a totally not real dinosaur that blinks its eye
                                                                 Bee cup!!!
                                                             Bee-naculars (get it?)

                                                                      well they said

Somehow the little ones found themselves working together on their 3-hole cistern system.

took a photo at the largest and the second hole

they said it was a success when the water came in and did not destroy the holes

Sneak attack! They went to the one dug by the three bigger ones and Jun even dumped the surrounding sand into the hole in an evil attempt to destroy their effort right before leaving the beach

Papa went for a run
                                           INSTANT NOODLES PARTY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

                                                                         getting gas
                                                                           Candy van
                                                            REACHED AIRPORT
IDK what place this was. i was't there. Papa brought Mei to eat wanton noodles while the rest had subway sandwiches.

We were supposed to take the 230 flight but it was delayed by 3 hours. Mama took the opportunity to blog, My laptop had totally crashed last night so I needed to take it back to work tomorrow for the IT staff to resurrect it! Mama thought that some of Jun's comments were rather cute so perhaps Jun might be helping to blog more often. We agreed that he would use blue so it was easy to tell who was talking.

Poor Mei was having a fever but we had packed the medicine away in the checked in luggage. We prayed for a smooth flight and that Mei would feel better...

And all of us would be all ready for another Tay Family  adventure in Malaysia on Friday!
