(parenting tots) They will be small only for a little while

Mama wrote this on FB to encourage Er Yi who needed some comfort at this tremendous changing point of her life...phew, the two of you could finally play independently for short periods of time...just today, mama was so worn out after taking the two of you to watch Barbie Mariposa, i laid on the bed and the two of you kept coming in to ask for things and stuff. I said I was really tired and needed a little nap...so the two of you watched tv, Xun brought toys out for tong tong to play (you told me tong was hungry and you gave him an orange and juice. I was alarmed. Turned out that you took the wooden toys and pretended to have a picnic at the living room, ha.)...so mama did catch 40 winks...

They will only be small for a little while

My sister just has her first child and I reflect on my motherhood journey thus far as i hold the little precious bundle in my arms. Well, I m no longer the anxious and paranoid greenhorn who wanted to abandon the whinging and incessantly demanding brats at the shopping centre. My heart swells with affection as I espy Xun and tong playing peek a boo and speaking gibberish to each other at one corner. Love is so inexplicable, how can one love so deeply, so greatly, so achingly and so tenderly?

To my beloved sisters and friends who will be embarking on this great journey...

That if he keeps doing those very things that you explicitly disallow, it's not coz he is defiant. He is curious about this amazing world and he is secure in the knowledge that u ll rescue him from every situation.

That if he demands incessantly and breathes down ur neck, it is becoz u r his sole lifeline and he thinks the world of you and can't bear for you to be out of his sight.

That when he has an epic meltdown, it does not reflect on your parenting skills or it means he has a tyrannic temperament, he is simply having his needs unmet at that moment.

That he will not be small for very long. Once, xun needed my hand to be on her body so she could go to zzz but now she will push my hands away when I snuggle next to her saying that it makes her feel uncomfortable.

That now xun says she wants to be with me forever but one day she may rant at me that she hates me and wishes I will stop interfering in her life.

That he needs your help in everything, your life revolves ard him now, leaving no breathing space and personal time and no time to sleep but one day he will be independent and u wish u can do all those things for him just so he will linger longer in your presence.

Motherhood is not easy, don't expect it to be, like our mummy says sagaciously, if it is easy, everyone ll be having more kids. But its rewards are great. The heady sensation u get when u Savor the fragrance of their hair. The joy that fills u when u look into their eyes and witness their wonder when they are amazed by things we take for granted, like the little black birds, the pretty bed sheets, the surprise presents, the bowl of favorite noodles. The awed feeling that overwhelms u that u are entrusted with this mammoth task of loving, teaching and guiding them...

The days are long but the years are short. They will only be little for a little while. Enjoy them, enjoy motherhood, enjoy the journey.

(28 Nov 13 Thurs) Barbie Mariposa show at Raffles City

papa was on leave again. Mama had so many activities lined up for Nov and Dec as it was the school holidays and the malls usually had free shows and events for the kids! And the malls would be decked in splendor in all those glittery ornaments, we loved to check those out.

The bargain-sniffing mama bought some DEAL vouchers for the Gardens by the Bay and Flyer tickets. When we drove to ah ma's house, we always passed by the Gardens and you would spot the Super Trees excitedly. You also mentioned you wanted to take the Flyer. So mama bought the tickets, all ready for a new adventure.

We dropped by this quaint quirky cafe at Novena. Take 2 cafe was featured in the 8days magazine and was near that travel agency where we had to collect the tics. Good coincidence.

Very pretty place, I loved the brick walls, the whimsical drawing, the little creative touches, like that insect clock.

Ok, moving right on to the Barbie Mariposa show at Raffles City. Mama planned for papa to drop us then for him to head to EXpo for the IT fair. Last night, papa mentioned that he actually wished to catch the show with his darling xun xun...erm...well...today he dropped us but then realised he did not bring his wallet! So he parked and came to find us instead. Both of you were ecstatic to see papa, esp Xun, who was lamenting that papa was not around and how she wished papa would come back in time to catch the show...you had totally wrapped papa around your little finger, he was soo deeply in love with you...

Only the kids could be seated on the carpet while the parents had to stand at the side. Tong was pretty ok at first till some time into the show when he got really groggy and wanted mama to feed to sleep.

Ooo the back drop was really charming...

 The crystal fairy!

Barbie Mariposa, the butterfly fairy! So the lands of the butterfly fairies and crystal fairies had been estranged and it was up to Mariposa to reunite the two kingdoms. Throw in a mean witch who wanted to usurp power, ah, there you go, the classical story of good vs evil and how the kind ones always triumphed.

Well, tong had a good nap and we were browsing at the Toys section after the show. Papa promised to buy you a Mariposa barbie...it was really costly, $49.90 and mama saw it on sale at Giant IMM for $39! I thought it was ridiculous to pay so much for a barbie, erm, and even more absurd to buy it here when we knew a cheaper alternative existed. well, but since you had papa around your little finger, and for him, if money could solve the money, it ain't a problem anymore...then we realised that if we bought $50 worth of barbie merchandise, we could get a free makeover, we threw in one more dvd and presto...the BARBIE makeover...

It really melted my heart to see you being dolled up in the dressing room...it was like a prelude to the wedding day when you would be doing the same thing, except it would be to start a new family on your own...you had grown so much, so fast, so tremendously...

You chose purple eyeshadow as it was your favourite colour...

Pursing the lips for the perfect pout...

Yiyi told papa that she only did curls for very obedient little girls...you had much favour with everyone at the booth...you were such a joy..papa claimed, "who wouldn't love xun xun?" He was your most ardent supporter...

Well, you went into the studio alone and came out excitedly to choose the photo. You were so bold nowadays, you no longer clung to mama...papa said you were ready for sch. Yeh, sure thing, erm..but I would just keep you with tong and me for a little longer...you were so goofy, you chose the funniest photos - those with clownish faces and silly grins, ha we had to steer you towards a more acceptable choice...oh well...

ha..that day, both of you were bathing and we were talking about tong tong being so goofy. We talked about the Goofy in Mickey show, you laughed and said, "goofy Goofy, get it?" grins...mama was always amused with your wry sense of humour, your knack for picking up bombastic words , your heavily accented, grammatically perfect sentences..i loved you soo much...

tong tong seemed to be having some bouts of terrible twos recently...he would go into whining and crying spells, even at Wai po's house. It so alarmed wai po that she called papa to hurry over to help out. Eh...wai po managed to pacify him after awhile...she thought tong tong must have inherited papa's personality...coz she said xun xun was just like mama, we had such unflappable and placid personalities...papa would not admit it...but eh...you know...sly wily grin...wai po was as wise as an owl, tong tong did take after papa, they were both prideful creatures, totally Leo-like, they liked attention and control...

I loved you two so much so much...never knew love could be so deep and so intense. love you, sweethearts.

(26 Nov 13 Tues) Disney's Live - Mickey's Magic show at MBS

We caught the Mickey show last year at the ice skating rink. This year, it was at the Marina Bay Sands and it was a magic show!

The first item was the Mad Hatter and Alice. Well...we had not read Alice in Wonderland before, this reminded mama that I should go and borrow this book.

Mama found this segment of the magician slicing the ladies into halves most curious. I read before that they pushed the feet moulds out from the boxes and then curled up into halves. There was an added twist for this act, the ladies were dressed in different colours, then their lower bodies were swapped and they ended up with a different coloured bottom. Ha...

Dancing luminous broomsticks and floating minnie...

Tong loved Donald Duck the most. When Donald came out, he would shout, "Duck Duck!". When Donald left the stage, he would also shout, "Duck Duck!" Donald kept wanting to perform his act, when Mickey and Minnie sang songs to introduce the acts, Donald would go "Donald Duck...Donald Duck...Donald Duck"...it was comical. When it was finally his turn to perform in the human canon ball act, he backed out! Ha...mama and papa caught a glimpse of how they "deceived" the audience, the man was supposed to be grounded into a flat sheet in a machine, they pushed him in, with a sleight of hand, flipped open a board which showed a picture of an empty interior. As we were seated at a high level, papa and mama could see the clothes of the guy and the flipping of the board. ha. But the amazing thing was, later the same guy appeared from the other side of the stage...erm...the disappearing and reappearing acts were really baffling...how did they do it? Maybe there were twins!!!

There was a segment where the princesses would appear magically from the bed that was covered by a curtain...

The grand finale...

You could not bear to leave and wanted to come back again. We made a pact that we would watch it every year. After the show, you talked about magic pretty often. One night, we were playing in the playroom and papa tricked you that he could make blocks disappear and appear and change colours. You were astounded...it was hilarious to see the look of surprise of your face. ha.

After the show, we hung around at the atrium, they had some structures...all nicely done up for phototaking...

We had to pay some amount to take a photo with Santa Claus, nah, not interested...

There was a stage and children running amok on it. The funny thing was there was an annoyed ang moh security guard who had to shoo children off the round structure (at left corner of photo below) which contained the wiring and power plugs. ha..

We bought this dress from AEON, only 20RM!

Batkid was in town to save the day.

Went to Ten Mile's Paradise Inn for dinner. It was value for money and really delicious.

Grocery shopping time and time to head home. Well, it was always such fun to be exploring Singapore and attending events with papa when he was on leave. Often, you would ask me to tell you stories in the dark about Xun xun loved papa, xun xun and tong tong loved to play with mama...mama would list all the things we loved to do together, you never tire of hearing that...I would you never tire of hearing all those things...Love you to bits, little ones.

(24 Nov 13 Sun) Legoland AGAIN!

Here we were, once again at Legoland. This time, we came with papa's cousins - Auntie Karen, Uncle Stephen, their son Kaysen, 4th Kor poh, Auntie Candice and Uncle Kenny!

Looking stylish in sunglasses...

Tong, the copycat, who always tried to imitate his jie jie...

papa had to fuel up before the grueling trip...

This time round, we rented a buggy for the kids...erm...tong was intrigued by it for awhile but soon got tired of it and wanted to walk on his own...or be carried by mama...argh, my poor back..

Your darling 4th kor poh. You loved playing with her because she was always so obliging..and she made up interesting games too!

Xun, you helped take this photo for papa and mama! I must say, your photography skills was not too bad...

Waiting for our turn to take the train ride. Ha, Biao gu did not like thrill rides very much and prefer to take these kiddy ones with you...

A family photo!
Aunt Karen, Uncle Stephen and Kaysen...Kaysen was just a few months older than tong tong...

Biaogu, Uncle Kenny and 4th kor poh..

Checking out the lego figures. I could never ever comprehend how  does one have the patience and dexterity to make such intricate structures...eh...mama was simply not adept at Lego....papa said he was though...

What a scorching day. Time for a snack. The little ones zoomed in on the popcorn 4th Kor Poh had bought.

Impish Xun requested for this photo, she was sneaking up on the boys.

We must not miss the plane rides!

The black one was indeed hotter than the other colors! It was definitely true when the science teachers told you that black absorbed the most heat as compared to the other colours.
SO, we came to Legoland this time round expecting to have a good time at the newly opened water park. Alas, we were there for a grand 10 min of splashing in the baby pool (after a long 20 min of waiting for the adults and kids to change)...the thunder roared and lightning struck and the lifeguards blew their whistles...sigh...we were supposed to go for shelter...so we changed out and decided to go shopping at Bukit Indah. Erm..the ironic thing was, the sky actually cleared up and was balmy and breezy when we were heading out. Papa decided it was pointless to change all over and go back, since we could not ascertain if the guards would allow us back in...so...Bukit Indah AEON instead.

Sat for a grand 10 min...argh...
AEON was fun...it was the holidays so the sales were rampant. Buy 1 get 1 free, buy 1 at 70% off...papa bought 3 pairs of shoes at Payless shoe shop, xun xun got a sparkly pair too. Papa said that xun xun was starting young, xun liked to buy pretty things too.

We ate, shopped a little more and it was time to go home. Very enervating day...brrrrr,  but it was loads of fun!
