Eve
The eve of Chinese New Year had arrived...it was always reunion dinner at Ah Ma's house.
first, we had lo hei..
scrumptious food prepared lovingly by ah ma
the Tay brothers
The Tay boys, I supposed good genes ran in the family
such a lot of ingredients for the lo hei, even abalone, salmon
the men watched while the women toiled
yes, tossing time, the kids enjoyed this segment thoroughly
Tuck in time
Uneventful Chinese New Year eve, went home and slept early to start a bright and chirpy year tomorrow.
CNY day 1
Could not believe how picky and fastidious jie jie had become at choosing her clothes. Bought matching dresses for her and chose a larger size as she was so lanky..alas, they were too loose for her and she refused to wear them...finally settling for her favourite cheongsam dress, which she originally wanted to save for the last day of celebration on the 4th day, but we decided she should wear it on the 1st instead...
and the boy, who wanted to wear the polka dotted thomas shirt...which was not even a new one, though he had so many new thomas shirts in the cupboard...sigh
ah gong had decorated the house festively
oh...i did so like this cheongsam inspired dress. that day, mama tried on the traditional cheongsam dress which I wore some years ago, even before papa and I were married and I could still fit in it! except for the hips...ha..a tad tight
what good looking boys we had
xun wanted to draw some pictures
then we asked her to help take a photo for mama and papa but tong photobombed us
xun and tong practised saying the chinese greetings
ah ma and ah gong came back from the temple and prepared the delicious mee sua, then off we went to Serangoon.
the yi pohs and galore of goodies
always fun to play at Min Hers' house as she had tons of toys.
the bigger boys played video games
the small ones played with the engines
Hers got on so well with xun xun, they were building towers
the cheeky one would occasionally come to find papa to get a sip of the cold beverage
check out his styled hair, he liked it, vain boy too
liu yi poh helped xun tie braids and gave her the sparkly rubber band
ha after Jeff, Mke and Ken were gone, the even older boys played "Pac Man", ha a game they played when they were really young
Next we went to mama's ah gong's house at Ang Mo Kio.
the men would play MJ at the breezy corridor
the women would be gossiping in the kitchen
tong loved baby you you very much, always looking out for him
ha, 4 grand uncle was playing candy crush on his HP and xun went to sneak a look
oh we were missing san yi who went to Cambodia with her mother in law
ha, the kids were famished and ate steamboat, xun's favourite
oh mama's god sis came and she had 3 daughters.
xun enjoyed playing with Trinix, the youngest girl, who was 6 years old
mu goodness, mama's god brother was looking younger and younger
mama's ah gong woke up from his nap.
the girls were playing a game with papa, they had to jump when he counted to 3, but of course, papa always tricked them
Back to Marzuki, the last leg for the day
oooo lo hei AGAIN
aunt val said she saw people lining the lo hei plate with plates around so the food could be salvaged.haha...looked like a blossoming flower
Aunt Lindy got the selfie stick with the remote so we could take a shot of everyone...
oh...toss and toss, may the year be filled with good fortune and blessings
It was Aunt Chuping's birthday too! we had a very decadent chocolate cake
the the young ones resumed their play in the room while the adults started gambling
4 kor po did a conference call from Holland
The mummies gathered to chit chat..
ha then they started playing with the lion head, each taking turn to be the head
tong had bathed, ah...we did not take the customary cousins' and families' shots...hmmmm papa said coz 4th kor po, the one who initiated such things was away. ha
trying to get them for a group shot was hard...
so we concluded a day of feasting, yes, indulgent sinful feasting, merry making and catching up. Chinese New Year was always a great time for reunions.
