(10 & 11 Nov 18) Oxford University Museum of Natural History, Pitts River Museum and Legolan Birmingham Discovery Centre

Museums in Oxford

So we went to Oxford to inhale "the air of intelligence" (a phrase used by papa's boss heh)..perhaps one of you would be inspired to study at one of the universities here when you grew up?

It started out as a bright and balmy day.

The Museum of Natural History was such an exciting place. There were enormous displays of dinosaur bones, you could imagine the dinosaur-lover, Mr Tong's, delight. We picked up the dinosaur trail exercise and had to go around to hunt for all the dinosaurs.

Sculptures of famous scientists...

We were encouraged to touch the displays so it was really fun for the children. They could feel the hair/ fur of various animals.

Skeletons of other animals

Charles Darwin

Oooo a triceratops

There are stations whereby we could listen to commentaries...

Learnt many fascinating facts and all ready to go to the second level

There was a temporary exhibit about the bacteria...hence this ginormous display hanging from the ceiling...

While the Museum of Natural History was fascinating to the children, Pitt Rivers Museum was not as enjoyable. It was a tad dark, so Jun was a little frightened.

There were interesting exhibits though, like ships, tools, toys from eons ago...

It poured...so it was hard to go around. Sigh, so we headed home.

While we were driving home, we saw two beautiful rainbows that formed almost perfect arcs!

We were reminded that God is always constantly watching over us...that all his promises are Yes and Amen.

We went to a Japanese restaurant. The children did not think that the fried noodles they had was that delicious, I thought they were contented with simpler fares like the udon noodles I cooked at home!

Gor gor did not feel too well. He developed a fever that day, then subsequently a very bad rash on his body and back. Sigh...I wanted to buy some balm for his skin and the pharmacist advised that we should go to the hospital.

Well, I felt most doctors were overly cautious and always recommended over the top solutions when they were unsure, i.e. go to the hospitals...ha...anyway we consulted papa's and mama's friends, sent them some pictures of the rash...and I felt pretty sure it was heat rash or an allergy rash (he was rolling around on the carpet...perhaps it was the wool, maybe it was because I applied a thick layer of baby lotion on his body and that caused the pores to be blocked.) He was still bright and chirpy (loud and annoying as usual), so I felt we could just monitor him. Cross fingers!

Legoland Birmingham Discovery Centre

We could not find the place and made many u-turns because the GPS led us down roads which were closed...it was a rather frustrating drive. The tickets were expensive too! I got them from an offer website (yay for resourceful mama) and it was still 60 pounds (vs 85 pounds).

Waiting for the lift

Went to Miniland. It was nice. It had day and night, so the lights would brighten and dim, there were even fireworks when it was nighttime.

The famous buildings in Birmingham City

Warwick Castle. We were definitely going there for a visit.

There were buttons and games to play...

Like this soccer game

Ha, went underneath and popped up amongst the structures

There were some building stations...Jun had fun building structures...

Boy, was he upset when he could not separate the stacked up blocks

We bought the activity book and redeemed a pastry chef figurine.

Went to watch a 4D show and went to the car assembly station.

Rather simple station but the children dallied there for a long time...

They had to pit their cars against one another in a race...

Another station - build the tallest building that could withstand the earthquake tremors..

Jun's structure

Well, a final photo of the cars they built before we left...

Sauntering along the river...we were adapting to the chilly weather (cue pun: Xun remarked that there was a hot chilli and a cold chilly, ha)

A selfie...and the impish littlest one refused to look at the camera..

We went to Chinatown for a very late lunch. Found a cosy joint with a lunch menu that consisted of a main, beverage and dessert and it was affordable at 8pounds. We had wanton noodles, yum and soya bean drinks and beancurd. Nice, warm tummies.

Supermarket shopping at the oriental supermarket again before we headed home.

ok that concluded our first weekend in England!
