Saturday - A day out with Papa at Warwick Castle
It was very expensive to go to this Merlin attraction, cost us some 80 pounds!
Ha, wanted for being cute.
The first attraction was the Horrible Histories Maze. We traveled to the different time periods and learnt really interesting facts. First stop - terrifying Tudors. Hmmm, why was burning down one's father's house not punishable by death while burning your own house or your mother's house was a crime? haha
The vicious Vikings!
Ha, mug shots of the slimy stuarts
learnt of the terrible conditions the soldiers found themselves in in the first world war
Oh the storming normans who invaded England
Middle Ages
We got all the stamps and redeemed a sticker!
Since mama was the photographer, I was hardly captured in any photo.
Oooo the souvenir shop. The boys' eyes lit up when they saw these crazy cable wire candies...eh...nope, not buying these
Went to the Kingmaker's Tower, it depicted the pivotal scenes leading to the battle led by the Earl of Warwick
Looked out of one of the windows in the Tower and saw that the castle was by this beautiful river
Went to the falcon show
What beautiful orange eyes. Xun commented that the staff at the Bird Park told them that it meant the bird hunted during dawn or dusk, so it was not a nocturnal bird. hmmm
Caught a show at the Princess's tower
Went to the Chapel, Hall and State Rooms where everything was grandiose and pompous
Would have been if we could stay at a Victorian-themed hotel
Ha a modern warrior against the ancient warrior
A stately feast
Went for a show at the Time Tower
The moving portraits reminded me of a scene in the Harry Potter movie
On a history trail to find out how Warwick Castle was built by a warrior princess...went through many hands, and finally it was bought by Merlin Entertainment.
The steps up and down the towers were winding and tiny...Could it be that the ancient people were so small in stature?
Jun was admirable, he climbed up one long flight of stairs by himself, at some points we was climbing up on all fours...we took some 500 steps?
At the viewing tower...against the ruins of this ancient beauty
Snack time!
A rare photo of mama and the lovely kids
Using the binoculars to check out the land that was spread below
We wanted to visit Stratford upon Avon but the kids fell soundly asleep in the car on the ride there. Heh, I did not think they would appreciate the quaint, comely cottages anyway...so we drove home for dinner. We had been cooking on most days as eating out was very expensive. The kids were simple folks whose idea of a delicious meal was as simple as a tummy-warming bowl of instant soup noodles. ha...it was a good thing that all of us were low maintenance bears who thought of food more as a source of sustenance than an indulgence.
It was a lovely day at Warwick, we spent close to 5 hours at the place, it was definitely worth a visit.
