(15 Sep 13 Sun) Farmart and Chinatown for Mid Autumn Festival

Mama had always wanted to bring the two of you to Farmart. It was soooo ulu, at a place where birds did not lay eggs (it was a chinese saying, quite hilarious), so it was only possible to go there with papa on weekends. So, we went! It was raining cats and dogs, on a day when we were literally going to see cats and dogs at the pet shops at Farmart.

First, we had a scrumptious lunch at the zi char, maybe it was the cold weather, maybe it was because it was way past lunch hour so we were exceptionally hungry, maybe it was the soothing ambiance with melodious oldie local songs...

the "angsty" tong was getting impatient and yelled to be let down to roam around...
Finally, we finished lunch and set off to explore...

We saw chicks...

A sleeping cat...

Just now, we saw some kids playing in the enclosure with the bunnies under the supervision of a staff. However, the staff was nowhere to be seen so you could only look longingly at the furry little critters..

Tong liked to take photographs. You could ask him to pose anywhere and he would oblige!

bucolic place...such laid back village charm...

Spotted two roosters...a little drenched from being left in the rain...
Highlight of the day. There was a parrot shop and one could buy a cup of nuts to feed these feathery friends...

Xun did not like the black ones too much, I suppose they looked menacing and intimidating...

Tong was fearless, he was willing to try anything, he had no qualms at all letting the little bird peck at his hand for food...

Xun needed a little coaxing but she overcame her fear! I was really glad for you for you tended to be more apprehensive about such new experiences...I thought having a little brother was good for you. It seemed as if you were spurred by his bold actions and you felt braver with him around : )

This little yellow one was the daintiest and prettiest. It had eaten so much that it refused to nibble anymore...

Tong even ventured to feed the scary black ones...

Our sleeping schedules had gone all topsy-turvy...Tong was having his 18-month growth sport and sleeping poorly. On Sunday, while ma went to church and dad went to cut his hair, you two spent a leisurely afternoon with ah ma and ah gong. Tong actually napped for almost 3 hours! He would have gone on if not for mama urging him to wake up!

Since both xun and tong had a long nap, mama decided to check out Chinatown as Mid Autumn festival was just round the corner. Serendipitously, we caught the fireworks while being caught in a traffic bottleneck as there was some road closure due to a MAF celebration. Xun, you enjoyed it, you said it was not too loud watching it in the car.

Rows and rows of pretty lanterns. Xun laughed and remarked they were like colourful catepillars and they followed a pattern...

This was the famous golden tooth temple...it allowed believers to purchase lanterns for blessings and the monks would hang the lanterns outside, made a pretty sight!

Ge-tai...a dying entertainment, mama used to go for these with her wai po and your wai po...

A visit to the night market could not be complete unless one bought some yummy snacks...papa and I loved night markets, we loved the bustling sight, the hive of activity, abundance of cheap good food...

Fishballs!

Makeshift stalls, reminded me of the Chinese New Year bazaar...mama used to go for the  bazaar on CNY eve with her sisters so we could grab some cheap bargains like jellies and CNY goodies...that was some time ago, before I had you...well, it would be packed with people, so crowded that you had to jostle your way through at a snail's pace...but memories like this were so special...I wished you would create your own special memories and traditions with your darling baby brother too...

Wonder what kinds of lanterns would you be having when you grew up?

It was a fun night...family time was always the best...such sweet sweet memories...
